DARE PROGRAM
Last week 5/6 students and our Year 7 students participated in the DARE program which was facilitated by Vinnies. This is a prevention-focussed mental health program developed to equip students from Year 4-10 with the behaviours, skills and strategies to be DARING, AUTHENTIC, RESILIENT and EMPOWERED.
Through a series of interactive, strength-based and evidence-informed sessions, students are challenged to build a greater sense of identity, foster healthier relationships and take positive action in the community. The aim is for students to leave with practical tools, strategies and resources to support mental wellbeing in the classroom, at home and in day-to-day life.
The program is based on the belief that supporting the social and emotional development of young people leads to better academic outcomes, improved physical health and a better quality of life.
Studies show that half of all mental health conditions having started by age 14 , so it is critical to equip young people with the emotional literacy and help-seeking behaviours to develop a stronger sense of self, positive coping strategies and realise their potential.
The DARE program, comprised 4 core modules:
- DARE to be YOU
- DARE to CONNECT
- DARE to SPEAK UP
- DARE to CREATE CHANGE DARE addresses many of the capabilities listed under the ‘Health and Physical Education’ and ‘Personal and Social Capability’ sections of the F-10 Australian Curriculum.
The students also enjoyed a Sausage sizzle for lunch.
