High Impact Teaching
High Impact Teaching Practice
As you may be aware, CE is committed through its Catalyst program, to improving student learning through evidence based-teaching practice (HITP). Teachers at McAuley have been trained and are coached to implement HITP to deliver excellent learning opportunities for our students.
What is High Impact Teaching Practice?
HITP includes:
- High expectations
- Explicit teaching
- Specific lesson structure
- Review practice
- Student engagement
HITP is effective in improving student learning and performance as it is aligned with the Science of Learning and how the brain processes and stores information.
You may have heard your child/ren talk about using mini whiteboards, STAR strategies and daily reviews. This is all part of our HITP practice. Students are encouraged, through a range of strategies to actively participate in lessons, be attentive and review content previously taught. Our students at McAuley are champions of engagement and teachers are reporting great improvement in student learning as a result of the High Impact Teaching Practices.
So maybe ask your child about how they are engaged and participate in lessons, how they review and practice skills and how they show they are being attentive.
We think they are amazing!
