Dear McAuley Families
The cold mornings are certainly hanging on! Thank you for your support of correct uniform for your sons and daughters. There are certainly warm options available at Wendellie which match our uniform choices. On Monday I reminded Secondary students of the need for safety in the wearing of bangles, bracelets, hooped earrings and so on. Please continue to support our staff in having your sons and daughters in correct, warm, and safe uniform.
Last Friday McAuley hosted the Western Region Athletics Carnival. Mrs Bathgate and her team did a wonderful job in organising the events, record keeping, marshalling and so on. Lyn even arranged for the sun to shine briefly! Thank you to our Community Council members who were able to cater for a large crowd on a cold day. Thanks all for your wonderful support and enthusiasm.
It's enrolment time and already interest is high in our school for 2024. Please encourage family and friends to apply online for enrolment at McAuley next year. Having a good idea of numbers will be very helpful as we plan for buildings, facilities and staffing needed to support our growth as a school.
Reports were released on Compass yesterday. Please take the time to review your children’s progress. Celebrate the gains they have made and work with them to set realistic goals to improve in other areas. Parent teacher interviews are available on your request and may be booked via the Compass portal.
Michael Grose gives some great pointers on “Parenting Ideas” about things to consider when reading your child’s report:
1. Focus on strengths.
2. Consider your child’s attitude to learning.
3. Broaden your focus away from academic subjects.
4. Take note of student self-assessment.
5. Celebrate your child’s efforts – enjoy a break from tests and assessments!
I look forward to celebrating the achievements and success of our students at the end of term assembly next Friday 30 June.
Please note the return dates for Term 3:
Monday 17 July: Staff Day – Planning and Workshops
Tuesday 18 July: Classes resume K – 11.
We have much to celebrate at McAuley. Our enrolments are strong, academic results are high and we have a happy and safe school. Thank you all as parents for your support as the first educators of your children.
Mary our Mother, Look after us.
Eamonn Moore
Principal
On Wednesday June 7, 19 students made their Sacrament of Confirmation.
Thank you to Father Joe and Archbishop Christopher Prowse for such a beautiful Mass.
McAuley was represented by 44 students at the Western Region Athletics carnival. Our athletes competed against students from the 11 other schools in our region. Overall McAuley finished in third place on the point score, with St Anne’s, Temora taking home the Champion School trophy.
Chloe Pearce was awarded the Senior Girl’s Age Champion and Jimmy O’Connell was named Junior Boy Runner’s Up after strong performances throughout the day.
McAuley had numerous students who placed in the top 3 (see table below) and now have 16 students who have made the Western Region team to compete at the Archdiocesan Athletics Carnival at the AIS in Canberra on the 22nd of August.

Kindergarten - Push and Pull Toys
Kinder were challenged last week.. Can we make a push and pull toy? We have been busy designing and building using recycled materials to create our very own toys that can be pushed or pulled. What a fun afternoon!
Therry House had their Crazy Clothes Day on Wednesday June 21. $347.05 was raised, and will be used for playground equipment.
Year 1 and 2 travelled to Wagga Civic Theatre on Wednesday June 21 to see the live performance of Alison Lester's picture book "Are We There Yet?".
Term 2 fees will be issued by Catholic Education next week. There are still a number of families with Term 1 fee balances. Please organise payments via BPAY as soon as possible or contact the school for a conversation.
This term in Science, 5/6T have been conducting investigations into the properties of solids, liquids and gases. They have explored the viscosity of liquids and how different materials combine and separate through some fun, hands on investigations.
On Tuesday June 20, students from Year 5 to Year 11 participated in Inquisitive Minds Workshops.
The Primary classes engaged with maths activities and brain teasers which demonstrated the value of approaching problems strategically.
They also learnt a range of problem solving strategies in an interactive mini-lesson.While selecting and applying appropriate problem solving strategies as they participated in a hands-on Maths Relay.
Teachers experienced on the job professional learning in the following areas:
Cooperative Learning
Working Mathematically
Fun, Worthwhile, Engaging Maths!!
Secondary classes participated in interactive lessons on problem solving strategies working together on a diverse range of original hands-on problems.
Lessons were tailored to students' needs and included a variety of problem solving strategies, including 'logical reasoning', 'make a pattern', 'draw a diagram' and 'make a list'.
Last week Kinder have been learning about mass in Maths. We used our arms to heft different classroom items then used scales to see how heavy and light objects are. We talked about where we might use scales- in cooking, at the shops and someone even has scales to weigh their 40 kilogram dog! Wow!
