Dear McAuley Families
We celebrated National Reconciliation Week from 27 May – 3 June. At the college various events recognized our proud links to the local indigenous heritage. We recognize that we sit on the lands of the Wiradjuri people and proudly acknowledge our ancestors in the words written by our students.
Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge that we live, work and play on the traditional land of the Wiradjuri people. We pay our respects to present, past and emerging elders of these lands. May we listen with great care to the heartbeat of Aboriginal lands and to its people who have cared for it so well for so long.
May I also extend our congratulations to Aunty Sue Bulger for her recent award of the Order of Australia Medal (OAM). Aunty Sue was a teacher at McAuley and attends many of our ceremonies and events as part of the many community activities she takes part in.
Last year our Nakia Morris also received special recognition for her work and support of our indigenous students, knowing that she also strongly advocates for those perspectives to be a part of the culture and flavour of the college.
This week we hosted interested parents for our Kindergarten 2025 Information Session. Numbers are strong for kinder next year, as they are across all year levels.
We are currently working to prepare for subject selections for Year 11, 2025 and I am excited by the offerings that our students will be able to choose from. It is deeply gratifying to know that we are able to provide choice and opportunity to all of our boys and girls in preparing them for this fast-changing world.
One of the exciting Stage 6 subjects which we offer is Design and Technology. This subject allows students to create a portfolio and major project based around a variety of media. Please see one example pictured which is a wooden clock designed and created by Rahn who has donated his work to our Hospitality space.
This is an area we are expanding into also. I write this week’s newsletter sipping a skinny cap created by our Year 11 students in their hospitality class. Exciting times!
Year 7 interviews are almost complete, and we hope to have letters of offer out in the coming weeks. Please note we have wait lists in many year levels at present. Please be sure to notify the college if you will not be returning in 2025 as demand is very strong at present.
Please read on for an explanation of the symbolism of our new crest refined this year to reflect our growth to a K-12 college. It is important that we recognise and understand our symbolism as we work to enhance and create a strong culture at McAuley.
Mary our mother look after us.

Our Year 6 students from our local schools and parishes attended their Confirmation Retreat this week. This day is the final step on their journey in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. They discussed their chosen saint and sponsor and identified the qualities that make those people an inspiration in their lives. They worked hard to practice for the ceremony to be held this week. Thanks to Miss Mason and Fathers Joe and Rofin for their work and support.

YEAR 11 2025 INFORMATION EVENING
Students travelled to Sydney on 5 June to compete in the MacKillop and NSWCCC Cross Country in Sydney. Congratulations to all students that participated and special mentions to:
- Chloe Pearce, Cybella Roddy, Sierra Roddy, Hannah Hood, Daniel Peacock, Elliott Adelan-Langford
- Mason Blundell who placed 18th out of 42 in the 6km event
- Cody Johnson who came 15th in his division
- Ailiena Roddy who came 6th in her division and has qualified to represent CCC at the all schools carnival in July
This week Year 4 designed, made, tested and evaluated model water transporter (irrigation) systems. They displayed terrific communication and group work skills. Future engineers in the making!
WAGGA WAGGA SCHOOL GIRLS TROPHY COMPETITION
The primary campus was very fortunate last Friday to have guest sport coach, Sharni Barton from Hockey NSW. Sharni coached the students and also the teachers so that they can continue to coach the students going forward. Everyone had a great time and they're looking forward to welcoming her back next Friday for another lesson.
SECONDARY ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 2024
After a few false starts due to the weather the secondary campus held their Athletics carnival on 4 June. It was a freezing day but everyone was rugged up and ready to go. Staff and Students had a great time and the carnival was a great success. Thanks to Mrs Bathgate for all her hard work getting both the primary and secondary carnivals organised. What a big effort!
INDIGENOUS TALENT IDENTIFICATION DAY
As you will be aware we have a large amount of interest in enrolment in Year 7, 2025. At the moment we are beginning an interview process for those outside of our system. There are more applications than places.
We ask that parents notify us of any student who will not be attending the college in Year 7, 2025. This will allow us to make offers after our interview rounds.
Please do not hesitate to contact Mr Moore should you have any questions or clarifications.
Stage 3 joined together for a dot painting art lesson based on our class novel 'Us Mob Walawurru' with Ms Morriss. Ms Morris taught the kids about different symbols and their meaning, and we discussed connection to country and how this relates to the story. Walawurru is a Luritja word for wedge-tailed eagle.
