Dear McAuley Families
We pray for those impacted by rain and flooding as we encounter another unusual term. At the very least our COVID protocols are allowing for a relatively normal return to events and excursions which are keeping the calendar very full.
Our Year 11 and 12 planning is making significant gains. We continue to work through the process of staffing and allocations for next year. Our Stage 5 (Year 9 & 10 students) are completing their Elective Subject choices for 2023 and our Year 11 students are working to finalise subjects and lines. We are thrilled to be able to offer an outstanding range of academic, vocational and apprenticeship supported pathways for our Class of XXIV.
Offerings in Year 11 are:
- Studies of Religion (which is combined with a Cert II in Active Volunteering)
- English Studies/Standard/Advanced
- Mathematics Standard/Advanced
- Biology
- Business Studies
- Chemistry
- Design & Technology
- Geography
- Industrial Technology – Wood
- Primary Industries
- Sport, Lifestyle & Recreation (SLR)
- As well as a range of VET/TAFE courses supporting childcare, forestry, interactive gaming etc.
Building works will begin soon for the “Senior Hub” to be located adjacent to the Basketball Courts. We have also submitted the next round of applications for the next stage of the Block Grant Authority (BGA) grants for the Primary campus. There is an enormous amount of work happening in planning, programming and organisation for the future. Grateful thanks to the amazing team of MCCS staff and CE personnel who are helping out.
We were thrilled to welcome our Kinder class of 2023 (the Graduating Class of 2035!) to their first Orientation Day yesterday. They were a cheery and excited bunch, and will be a fine addition to our school under the love and care of Ms Groves. Enrolments are strong with enquiries across all year levels at the moment. We look to have 23 Kinders for next year and more than 50 Year 7 which is terrific.
Our work and progress here at McAuley are a direct reflection of the charism of the Sisters of Mercy who believed that “action” was the way to provide service and assistance to others. Our efforts in embracing the latest educational pedagogical methods, lesson delivery and expansion into the future are all based on serving the needs of our students and providing opportunities for them, whilst being able to stay at home with their families in our town. I continue to be so excited as we move into the future.
We are currently finalising budgets and fees for next year and will give you detail as soon as we are able. Catholic Education have advised there will be a 5% rise in fees and charges across the board which we need to calculate in terms of our own budget restraints and financial commitments.
The Honourable Kristy McBain has advised her availability to visit and open the renovations completed as the last stage of our BGA work in the Primary. We will hold a ceremony on November 3 with guests from NSW Government and Catholic Education in attendance.

Shine conference for 2022.
Students from year 9/10 were invited to attend the Archdiocesan ‘Let Your Light Shine Conference’ on Friday 28 October at Merici College in Canberra. The day was fully funded by the Archdiocese to allow students from NSW country an opportunity to attend such a powerful day.
The day began with live music from hip hop artist, Augie.
Archbishop Christopher Prowes then addressed the students, speaking about embracing their potential. After a dramatic role play, the director of Catholic Education, Mr Ross Fox, also spoke to the 500 students as future leaders of our communities, welcoming their enthusiastic energy and encouraging them in their life choices.
The program is designed to encourage students to be open to developing their own personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Through a variety of talks, drama, testimony and other practical workshops and experiences, students are presented with the gift of faith.
SHINE is also a great opportunity for young people across the Archdiocese to come together, be encouraged and learn from each other as well as build relationships outside of their school community.
It was a wonderful day that the students really enjoyed and look forward to the Shine Conference in 2023!!!
Thanks to Mrs Dougherty and Miss Mason for supervising these students.
We have just picked the carrots we planted before winter and they were delicious! Celery and onions to come. Great job kinder and 5/6C who planted and tended to these plants and now are enjoying the vegetables.
PRIMARY AWARDS - WEEK 2 & 3 TERM 4
Last week 5/6 students and our Year 7 students participated in the DARE program which was facilitated by Vinnies. This is a prevention-focussed mental health program developed to equip students from Year 4-10 with the behaviours, skills and strategies to be DARING, AUTHENTIC, RESILIENT and EMPOWERED.
Through a series of interactive, strength-based and evidence-informed sessions, students are challenged to build a greater sense of identity, foster healthier relationships and take positive action in the community. The aim is for students to leave with practical tools, strategies and resources to support mental wellbeing in the classroom, at home and in day-to-day life.
The program is based on the belief that supporting the social and emotional development of young people leads to better academic outcomes, improved physical health and a better quality of life.
Studies show that half of all mental health conditions having started by age 14 , so it is critical to equip young people with the emotional literacy and help-seeking behaviours to develop a stronger sense of self, positive coping strategies and realise their potential.
The DARE program, comprised 4 core modules:
- DARE to be YOU
- DARE to CONNECT
- DARE to SPEAK UP
- DARE to CREATE CHANGE DARE addresses many of the capabilities listed under the ‘Health and Physical Education’ and ‘Personal and Social Capability’ sections of the F-10 Australian Curriculum.
The students also enjoyed a Sausage sizzle for lunch.
DARING, AUTHENTIC, RESILIENT & EMPOWERED
Year 9 and 10 students are enjoying the History excursion to Canberra today. This is a compulsory part of their unit where they need to complete fieldwork.
YEAR 8 MUSIC - CREATIVE ARTS EXCURSION
Year 8 music students together with visual art students travelled to Sydney on Wednesday 26th to enjoy the musical Cinderella at the lyric theatre. It was a wonderful performance which the students really enjoyed. Special thanks to Mrs Greacen, Ms Morris and miss mason for organising and supervising such a wonderful group of students.
COME AND TRY PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Planning and developing a Tourist Park using Lego materials.
Working in teams' students are provided with a budget along with State and local building regulations to plan and develop a viable business.
This was held on Monday the 17th of October for the Commerce Elective and some Year 9 and 10 students. This was run by Paul Worsfold the coordinator, Start Your Career Here from Riverina Joint Organisation.
It was an engaging program which the students enjoyed and were able to gain an insight in (Town) Planning and Development.
We would like to thank Paul Worsfold for travelling to Tumut to present such an engaging activity.
Socktober cultivates the passion of students to rise up, and take action against poverty.
It provides young people in Australia with the opportunity to lead in mission, encouraging them to think not only of what they will do to help, but why they will do it.
McAuley held Crazy Sock Day on Thursday October 27 and raised $346 for Catholic Mission while having some fun.
Thank you to our Year 6 photographers Zoe C, Stella, Sophie, Paige and Suhana for doing a great job and capturing the day.
On Monday 24 October, students K-6 enjoyed a high energy Religious Education concert performed by David Enever. David is a teacher and musicain from Wagga Wagga he composes and performs upbeat Christian songs based from scripture.
Our Primary students began their Peer Support program this term with our Year 6 students leading the groups. The topic for this year is - Keeping Friends. This module supports children in developing knowledge, skills and attitudes enabling them to make friends more readily and maintain those friendships. Keeping Friends provides children with opportunities to discuss different types of friendship, the importance of friendships and how to play well together. Keeping Friends is underpinned by the premise that resilient children have a broad range of supportive networks as opposed to a single best friend. They are able to move from group to group as the situation arises without relying on the presence of only one other student to influence the quality of their day.
Parents can assist their children by encouraging them to play with many different children, hence strengthening their social capacity and ability to cope. The following is a list of key behaviours parents can encourage in their children to help promote friendship skills: • talking with others during play • offering encouragement • taking a genuine interest in others • being willing to share with others • smiling often • learning how to move graciously into or out of a group.
Well done to all of our Year 6 students who have displayed outstanding leadership skills in presenting these sessions.
