Week 7 of Term 1 has been extremely productive. It has been pleasing to see students continuing to build our school culture and spirit. The generosity of families in raising over $1700 for the people of Northern NSW impacted by floods, has been truly amazing. Although the money raised will only contribute for the repair of a small amount of damage, the care and compassion of our school community has been great to witness.
The students and staff have had many things happening. Students have performed well at our local shows in Tumut and in Adelong. Excursions in Years 5 & 6 and 9 & 10 have provided a lot of extra curricular enjoyment. Next week we will see students put their sporting prowess to the test with the Netball Schools Cup and Rugby 10s competitions. We are eagerly waiting for the return of the excursion to the Royal Easter show for Agriculture students. The meat birds have been growing rapidly under the watchful eye of Mr Ellison.
In the classroom it has been pleasing to see the teaching and learning taking place. The continued work of our dedicated staff is appreciated. We welcomed Miss Moss back to school this week in Year 2 and it has been great to have her back. We thank Mrs Ros Piper for her work in Year 2 whilst Miss Moss was away.
Secondary students will by now have some assignments that they should be working on at home. As parents and carers, it is of great benefit if we show an interest in this work and try to support our children to learn to their maximum potential. Helping our children plan their time effectively is a great life skill. We strongly encourage the students to stay up to date with their google calendar which is available via google classroom.
I hope that you are able to enjoy the beautiful autumn weather that we are receiving at the moment.
Regards,
David Turnbull
Assistant Principal
Our St Patrick's Day Flood Relief Fundraiser was a huge success! A big thank you to everyone for their very generous donations. McAuley students raised a massive $1705.90 for flood affected victims and had a fun time doing it!
This amount includes a kind donation of $50 from Pie in the Sky Bakery.
5/6VT have been working on a special STEM activity since Monday -'Create a Working Leprechaun Trap'. Judging and demonstration was this morning and it was a photo finish. All the traps were beautifully made and included lures like rainbows and pots of gold. Well done Noah for winning the golden treasure.
Our 5/6 students enjoyed an excursion to the Tumut Historic Museum as part of their History unit ‘Australian Colonies’. Students enjoyed learning about life in the early colonies as well as the history of Tumut and our local area. A huge thanks to Marcia Cummins and her volunteers for the wealth of knowledge they shared with us and maintaining such a great historical resource.
This week all McAuley 5/6 classes went to the Tumut museum.
In history we are learning about the colonisation of Australia and the effect it had on the indigenous. At the museum we learnt that in the 1800’s it was hard for the Aboriginal tribes to move around the Tumut area as people had begun building a town.
There was an old-fashioned kitchen that included a wood heated stove and the Coolgardie Safe (an old fridge). We also learned about Miles Franklin and why she is important to Tumut, saw old medical equipment including a wheelchair which had its own chamber pot inside!. The most interesting part for me was a room filled with children's toys, clothes, and equipment. Thank You to the Museum organisers, we found it very interesting.

On the 7th March we went to the Museum. It was so interesting and we learned all about our town in the past. The very nice volunteers Ms Cummins and Mrs Fisher showed us around. We got to learn about Miles Franklin and all the amazing things she did in the war. We got to look at an old camera and a lace maker. We also got to see an old steam engine as well. All the students in our class really enjoyed it. We even got to look at old toys and kitchen appliances. It was the best and coolest.

Year 3/4 have been looking at how illustrations help tell a story and have created their own versions of Jennie Baker's Window. The students had to focus on both the outside view and what the inside of the window also looked like.
Years 3/4 students participate in a Gala Day and is the perfect opportunity to experience netball with modified NetSetGO rules without the pressures of competition.
For year 5/6 students, teams will be divided into pools with the overall winners progressing to a regional final in Wagga. The winner of the Riverina Regional Shield will progress to the state final to be held in Sydney, with teams competing from all over NSW.
Students will be required to be dropped off at the courts at 8.30am as games will commence at 9am.
The students will be supervised by McAuley Primary staff and are to meet them at 8.30am for roll call.
All games will be completed by 3:00pm or before depending on the number of teams entered. We will know exact times when the draw is released closer to the event.
Parents will be required to pick up their child from the courts or provide written permission if their child is to walk home. Otherwise, all students will be walked back to school and be dismissed at the completion of the school day.
There is a small cost of $5.00 per student to cover registration costs. Payments are to be made via Qkr!
Please complete the online consent IN COMPASS and pay the registration fee if you would like your child to attend.
McAuley has been invited to participate in the Rugby Union Schools 10’s competition. This day will be held at the Bull Paddock in Tumut on Friday 1st April.
The day is a free event run by Southern Inland Rugby. (Students will need to pay for the bus to and from the venue.)
There will be two divisions, a 3/4 age division and a 5/6 age division. Both divisions are mixed tackle, so boys and girls will play in the same team. Players do not need any experience to participate, these are great days to learn how to play and Southern Inland Rugby will be providing some training at school in the leadup to the day.
The children will come to school as usual and be transported to and from the Bull Paddock by bus students will require $2 per student to be sent in a clearly marked envelope to the Primary Office. Students will return to school at the conclusion of matches for usual transportation home.
All children need to wear their full sports uniform to school. All students will be provided with a McAuley jersey/top to wear during their games. Players will require a mouth guard and headgear on the day, football boots and socks are recommended but not required.
There will be a small canteen running but students are advised to bring their recess, lunch, snacks and water bottle. They may also like to bring their own folding chair to sit on when they are not playing.
In preparation for the day, training will be provided at school on Wednesday March 16th by Southern Inland Rugby Coaches. Students should bring their mouth guards and headgear on this day.
If you would like your child to participate complete the permission in Compass.

Kellie (Secondary Canteen) can always use a hand, even for just an hour over the busy lunch preparation time, would be a huge help. Kellie is in particular need of help on a Friday with food preparation and bagging the Primary lunch orders ready for delivery across the road.
Our Primary Canteen requires regular parent help for every 5th Wednesday of the month. ie: Wednesday 30th March and Wednesday 29th June would be the next rostered days.
Please contact the Office if you can assist.
