Dear McAuley Families
Welcome back to Term 2. The break felt like a long one and the beautiful Autumn days at the end of last week certainly helped make gardening a pleasure!
We began the term with a Staff Spirituality Day gathering with our colleagues from the TBAG Schools (Tumut, Batlow, Adelong, and Gundagai). The theme of “Walking Together” centered around the Emmaus story and the reminder from Pope Francis that “… we are not alone: we do not walk alone…”
Thank you to those staff and students who represented McAuley at the Anzac Dawn Service and March. We were able to gather as one school to commemorate the service and contribution of those men and women in our armed forces who have worked for the many freedoms and privileges we enjoy here in Australia. These important traditions continue to build the very special culture we have here at McAuley of authentic care and concern for our fellow people. Thank you all.
It was special to welcome back Nakia Morris after her time of sick leave last term. Nakia is a vital and much-loved support to our students and staff, and we have missed her smiling face and ‘can do’ attitude.
We remember Mrs Kerry Croft in our prayers on the sad loss of her father – Geoff Williamson. Kerry has been a most beautiful and loyal support to her dad. She has been very touched by the care and compassion shown by our McAuley family over the last week and passes on her family’s grateful thanks.
We are coming into enrolment time for 2024 and will seek applications for our main enrolment years – Kindergarten, Year 7, and Year 11, 2024. Several other year levels are approaching being full and we will open wait lists if necessary. Please keep an eye on local and social media for information and orientation sessions coming up later in Term 2.
It was lovely to welcome 5 new enrolments to the Secondary campus this week. A special welcome to Nicolas in Year 9 who joins us on exchange from France. What an amazing experience for us all!
Things are quickly ramping up to be busy this term and I encourage you to get on board and assist your children access calendars and planners, so all are aware of what is coming and required in the next few weeks.
Please also keep an eye out for notification about parent teacher interviews in Year 11 and information and planning for Year 11, 2024 that will take place this term.

McAuley staff attended a Spirituality Day on Monday April 24.
The theme of the day was 'Walking Together.' Bernadette Scott and Luke Maher from CE were our facilitators. We were joined by staff from St Joseph's Adelong, St Mary's Batlow and St Patrick's Gundagai.
During the day staff unpacked the beautiful scripture from St Luke, The Emmaus Story. We looked at what life was like in the time this Scripture was written, both historically and culturally, and the audience's the Gospel was written for.
It was a lovely opportunity to begin Term 2, with staff continuing to develop their understanding of Scripture as well as what it means to walk together with Christ.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL - FUNDRAISER
On 12th May it is 'Do It For Dolly Day' to support the Dolly's Dream Foundation.
Dolly’s Dream was set up by Tick and Kate Everett in memory of their daughter Amy ‘Dolly’ Everett. Dolly loved horses, but she tragically took her own life aged just 14 after experiencing an extended period of bullying and cyberbullying. On Monday 24th April it would have been Dolly's 20th birthday.
Tick and Kate Everett founded Dolly’s Dream Foundation is to raise awareness to prevent bullying and to support children who have experienced or witnessed serious violence, bullying, cyberbullying or other safety and well-being risks.
In Term 2, Dolly's Dream and Tick and Kate Everett are the focus for our Integrating Focus around the Mercy Value of Justice. A quote from the Everett's expresses their hope that raising awareness will have. 'It's important to remember ... that our tongues truly hold power...Let's teach our children and our society to use them for good. "
At our Athletics Carnival, on Friday 12th May there will be a cake stall with the proceeds going to the Do it for Dolly Foundation. This money will help make Dolly’s own dream of a kinder and safer world for Australia’s kids and communities a reality.
If you are able to donate cakes or slices etc for sale that would be greatly appreciated. Dolly's favourite colour was blue; however, cakes of all colours are welcome!
Students are asked to remember to pack some money, so they can purchase something yummy at the Carnival.
The McAuley Integrated Focus for Term 2 is "Truth, Integrity and Justice".

On Tuesday, 4/04/23, Year 1 were involved in a Dinosaur Dig where they were to be like palaeontologists and dig up skeletons/fossils in the primary school sandpit to study the structure of dinosaurs. The dinosaurs were hidden in the sandpit by some year 4 students - great thank you for their efforts.
The Year 1 students enjoyed discovering the skeletons that were set in plaster of paris to give a fossil image. Photos were taken so that Year 1 students can paste an image of their dig in their science writing activity about the Dinosaur Dig during class.
Radio news will recomence next Wednesday. Tune into 96.3FM Sounds of the Mountains at 9.45am to catch up on all the latest news from McAuley.
The annual Primary Campus Mother's Day Stall will be held on Thursday 11 May.
As with previous years, we are asking for donations of saleable goods for the stall. Please drop off your donation to the Primary office.
My name is Marianna Smith, and I am a student from Tumut. I am a boarder at Canberra Girls' Grammar School, and this year our school is holding The Little Mermaid. I am involved in the musical and have been co-cast in the role of Ariel. Another student from Tumut, Maggie Roache, is also involved in the show and has been co-cast as Andrina, one of Ariel's sisters. We're performing our lead roles on Friday the 28th of April and Saturday the 29th of April at 6 pm. I'd love if you could promote this to your school community, as our cast has spent so much time working on this show, and we hope that many people may come and support our show.
The link to the tickets is https://events.humanitix.com/the-little-mermaid-4htyxa74/tickets, and I've attached the poster as well.
Kind Regards,
Marianna
